The Kwazulu Natal circle
is a beautiful trip with a huge variety of different
scenery’s. Starting and ending at the coast with golden
beaches, rocky coves and the warm Indian Ocean. Inland
you take part of the famous Midland Meander with all its
arts and crafts, which leads you to the empowering
Drakensberg. You travel along the Drakensberg and go
back to the coast taking in the history of the
battlefields. You visit one of the popular Game Reserves
in South African and the world heritage site, the
Wetlands of St.Lucia.

11 DAYS KWAZULU NATAL
CIRCLE
The
Kwazulu Natal circle is a beautiful trip with a huge
variety of different scenery’s. Starting and ending at
the coast with golden beaches, rocky coves and the warm
Indian Ocean. Inland you take part of the famous Midland
Meander with all its arts and crafts, which leads you to
the empowering Drakensberg. You travel along the
Drakensberg and go back to the coast taking in the
history of the battlefields. You visit one of the
popular Game Reserves in South African and the world
heritage site, the Wetlands of St.Lucia.
DAY 1: UNDERBERG
You
arrive at Durban airport and pick up your hire car. From
Durban you travel toward Pietermaritzburg, where you can
visit the Voortrekker Museum. At the Voortrekker Museum
you can get a good overview of the history of Kwazulu
Natal, which is a perfect start. Continueing we take a
little detour to Underberg where your accommodation will
be for the night.
DAY 2: SANI PASS
Today
you take a guided tour though the Sani Pass. The
awe-inspiring Sani Pass climbs the face of the
escarpment to an altitude of 2874m and into the
"Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho". It is the getaway to the
"Roof of Africa". The scenery is breathtaking and
attracts visitors from all over the world.
The tour will reveal the history of the pass, geology of
the mountains, flora & fauna, and a unique experience
with the Basotho people. The highest pub in Africa
offers a cold beer & lunch before the descent back to
Underberg.
Your
tour starts at 9am and you need to take with a valid
passport, warm clothes, cameras, binoculars etc.

DAY 3: GIANT CASTLE
From
Underberg you head back to Howick. In Howick you should
make a stop to see the Howick Falls. You continue on the
Midland Meander which is known for its many arts and
crafts shops. Your final destination is the historic
Giant’s Castle Game Reserve, home of the eland and the
majestic bearded vulture. Giant Castle lies in the
Central Berg region of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park.
Superb rock art is high among its special attractions.
Giant’s Castle Reserve offers wonderful range of hikes
for the fit and not so fit.

Giants Castle.
DAY 4: GIANT CASTLE
Today
you have the time to explore the wonderful area of
Giants Castle. Overnight at Giants Castle.
DAY 5: SPIOENKOP
From
Giants Castle you travel to Spioenkop. On your way you
can visit Cathedral Peak, which is the northern part of
the Drakensberg. Your accommodation is full board.
DAY 6: DUNDEE
Your
day starts with a guided tour to the Spioenkop
Battlefield at 8h30 after an early breakfast at 7h45.
You head off in the bus where they play the CD - The
Pre-amble to the Boer War, which takes you from the Boer
invasion of Natal into the Battle of Spioenkop. You will
spend two hours exploring the summit, listening to the
compelling tale that unfolds on this emotive hill. After
refreshments you return to the Lodge in time for lunch,
listening to the cd - The Aftermath. After lunch you
leave for Dundee.
If
you have time, you can drive a bit past Dundee to visit
the Museum of the Blood River at Dundee. Ncome-Blood
River Heritage Site is probably one of the most unique
battlefields in South Africa. The site witnessed a major
confrontation between the Voortrekkers and amaZulu on 16
December 1838. The Voortrekkers fought under the skilful
leadership of Andries Pretorius while King Dingane’s
impi was led by Ndlela kaSompisi. You can do this
also the next morning.
Overnight in Dundee.
(Here you can choose if you like add 2 extra days to
visit Swaziand)
DAY 7- 8 : HLUHLUWE GAME RESERVE
Today
you travel to Hluhluwe Game Reserve, set in the
heart of Zululand, the oldest game reserve in Africa
where Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka hunted and
put in place the first conservation laws, where today
the "big five" of African legend stalk the verdant
savannah. You have 2 days to drive through the reserve
in search for the Big Five. Accommodation at Treetop
Zulu Lodge in Ubizane Wildlife Reserve, which is just
outside Hluhluwe.
While
you are in Hluhluwe you can drive to St.Lucia to visit
this popular town (100km one way).
DAY 9: SHAKALAND AT ESHOWE
From the game reserve
you travel towards Eshowe for a cultural day and night
at Shakaland. At shakaland Experience the sight
of assegaai-wielding warriors, share the fascinating
secrets of the Sangomas and witness traditional customs
such as tribal dancing, spear making and the
beer-drinking ceremonies. Your program starts at
16h00pm, so you should be there half an hour before
that. Overnight in Shakaland.
DAY 10: UHMLANGA
ROCKS
After your morning
program at Shakaland you travel to the coast to Uhmlanga
Rocks. If time you can still enjoy the golden beaches
and warm waters. Overnight in Uhmlanga.
DAY 11: END OF TOUR/
FLY FROM DURBAN
You
travel to the airport in Durban to return your car and
fly to your next destination.
